Bhiran Rai
(?-1340)
   One of the Hindu officials appointed by Muhammad bin Tughlaq (1325-1351) to high positions. He was made the auditor (mutsarrif) at Gulbarga and Kohir was assigned to him as his iqta'. In 1340, Bhiran detected large sums of revenue being retained by military officers in the region under his charge. He prevailed upon the governor to let him farm the revenues, undertaking to increase them by 50 percent. Military officers in Gulbarga, led by Ali Shah Khalji, revolted. They seized and killed Bhiran Rai.
